P S I T H U R I S M

Updated: Apr 11

Below are some images I have collated throughout January that have inspired me to start my spring-summer collection.

The artist Franz Kline has been a huge influence in the linear work that I have been working on in my textiles. Stark lines contrasting with various strokes of the brush give a field of energy like the human form morphing into various poses.

I find the abstract linear patterns together with stretched human poses give a sense of oneness.

I had an idea to go out into the forest near my home in rural France and create pieces of wearable art. I wanted to create organic movement in each stroke whilst using only fallen found objects such as leaves, twigs, bushes as tools to create.

I bought 50 meters of gold /khaki natural linen fabric. I then cut square pieces of the linen and attached them to trees to create large canvases to then work upon.

The inspiration was not necessarily the landscape around me, but the feeling of energy passing through it.

One of the best movements was whipping the leaves on the linen. It created really abstract prints that once dried seemed to look like long thin forest beings dancing on the linen.

I will cut up sections of the prints and incorporate them in my panel work on garments that I have designed. The color palette of the collection is Khaki Gold / Black and cream. fabrics include Linen & cotton.

I will also be working upon some of the textile art with free stitch embroidery to add more depth to the abstract black imagery.

Spontaneous movement.

I have named the collection

Psithurism

--The sound of wind in the trees and rustling of leaves

I have created a short abstract film that shows the process of natural painting of the linen in the forest.

I will be creating a small collection of abstract wearable art designs that will be sold exclusively online.

Thanks for reading I hope you enjoy the short film.
