Moon Phase Reflections Collection

A collection of OOAK Designs inspired by the Moon, her Phases & her reflections on earth.

Whilst creating this collection I felt an Urge to concentrate on Blue tonal colours mixed with black. It came from a late night walk along the seashore in wales when I saw the moon in all of her delight.

She stood shining her reflection onto the dark ocean which reflected in navy tonal colours. I loved the reflection and how it created so many tonal waved colours absorbing into each wave crashing along the sea shore. This become the light-bulb moment of inspiration for the whole collection.

I wanted to work with a variety of fabrics within each design. I chose to work with a lot of pliss'e pleated textured fabrics, as the textures where so compatible in relation to the ocean rippling with the glimmering reflection of the moon light.

One of the textile processes incorporated in this collection was flock printed cotton. The dark black flock abstract print was inspired by the surface of the moon. I tried to use the flock print in an abstract asymmetrical way across the designs as I wanted to give the feel of miss printed structures.

Another textile print technique which was used was the vinyl printed tonal blue fabric ( in image 6 ) I liked the shine this process gave the fabric. It was a wave type print that glimmered again with the inspiration being the Blue moon reflections on the surface.

In certain discreet parts of designs I used a navy Mesh fabric which held other fabrics together. I wanted to use this delicate transparent net fabric to cover certain areas of the body for example in image 10. You can see the net has been worked in together with the vintage ruffle fabrics. I thought these two textured fabrics worked extremely well together. Again the vintage ruffle was inspired by the rippling of the moonlit oceans on a dark winters night.

Incorporating velvet's was one of the best decisions I made. I love the textured brushed feel especially in (Image 1) you can see the velvet is a fine pleat. It contrast with the other tonal fabrics perfectly. And I feel adds a very contemporary twist to the garment

The whole collection is one of my longest processes to date. I found it hard to stop working on it. Constantly chopping into the fabric and removing excess weight, I wanted to create a collection of wearable art forms that reflected my vision of the moon reflections. My main focus was that I wanted to find that balance of art & wearable art.
